4ourth4loor Album Launch at Pop Art Space
Fourth-Floor-AT1-duo-poster4ourth4loor’s album ‘Songs from the Fourth Floor’ will be launched on Friday 4th July with a public launch at 6.00 p.m. at Pop Art Space, Level 4, Princes Quay, Hull, HU1 2PQ
4ourth4loor is the innovation of Yorkshire Electronica artist Andrew Tomlinson. The debut album, ‘Songs from the Fourth Floor’ reflects Andrew’s East Riding origins and spans influences from ghosts and memories, love and loss to sublime highs and deathly lows.
Andrew’s hometown of Hull and the surrounding countryside influence his songwriting. The album artwork features a specially commissioned painting of Flamborough Head and Andrew has created a series of atmospheric films to accompany the tracks, featuring landmarks including Flamborough Head and York, and the journey from Hull to Bruges.
The album has already attracted the attention of UK wide radio and social media sites. Music blogger Red Herring: “There’s some serious potential No.1 material and the best home grown album from Hull ever… it’s fresh and it’s totally contemporary electronic dance music. ‘Songs from the Fourth Floor’ flows from hard-edged dance to an ethereal chill out close.  Get in the car, turn it up loud, and head off to the coast. Take a trip through an album of uplifting songs but look out for the ghosts of love, loss and threads of the supernatural. Total feel-good, blow you away stuff.” May 2014
Journalist Phil Ascough on BBC Radio: “It sounds amazing – really modern electronic dance style with loads of remix potential” June 2014
Songwriter Graham Brady: “I was ready to think it would be good but I actually think it is fantastic.  I played it through about three or four times it’s got some real positive energy, the same energy pet shop boys had…” June 2014
Media producer/director Darren Edwards: “It’s got big commercial potential…” May 2014
Red Guitar Hallam Lewis  “Love it – very vibey, and catchy too! It’s great.” June 2014
The album has taken two years of writing and crafting the songs. Andrew explains, “Some of the songs existed purely as compositions for the acoustic guitar but it was when these compositions were fused into Electronic Dance Music (EDM) that they took on a life of their own. After some inspiring sessions at Element Studio with producer Dan Foster the music was complete, but still needed a voice. After months of searching for the right sound we started to lose hope when a friend suggested going to the Loudhailer Acoustic night to listen to Louise Duffy-Howard. It was a good tip!”
Louise continues, “Andrew introduced himself after the show and asked if I would consider singing the vocals on his album. I listened to it at home and loved the songs from the first play; I couldn’t wait to get started. There was a fantastic atmosphere when we were working with Dan at Element Studio, and the album is ready to go.”
The album cover photograph of Andrew by Richard Duffy-Howard has already had major recognition as the winning entry in the Music Industry Yorkshire music photography competition. Chosen by a host of top photographers who contribute to NME, Select, Kerrang, Q, MOJO, Rolling Stone, Vice, GQ, Rolling Stone and Billboard the image is part of June’s Creative and Cultural Company Photography Festival at Pride of Place Art Space in Hull’s Princes Quay Shopping Centre.
